Matthew 13:32 - It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.”

When we each do a little, we can make a huge difference. In fact, we can make a big difference.
Five years ago, my friend Stacie and I began a small project. We wondered if a few people made a monthly contribution to a non-profit organization, would we make an impact.
So, we started a group called Our Monthly Resolution. The concept is super-simple. Each month, we feature a Wisconsin-based non-profit organization and ask people to make a small donation towards supporting the group’s organization. We suggest $20/month. Some people donate more. Others donate what they can. The amount isn’t nearly as important as each of us doing a little. If you are not from Wisconsin, we have encouraged people to find a similar organization closer to them.
In the last five years, Our Monthly Resolution (OMR) has supported 56 different non-profit organizations. It is difficult to track the total amount donated to the organizations because we do not receive clear records about what is donated through OMR. Nonetheless, we can safely say over $56,000 has been contributed towards these organizations. The number could be higher. These donations have helped children, veterans, homeless and those with terminal illnesses. Other groups impacted include camps, people with disabilities, facilities for those assisted a loved one with health challenges and service animals. The list is wide and varied.
And so, we say “thank you.” Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported even one OMR non-profit organization. These donations have helped children, veterans, homeless and those with terminal illnesses. Other groups impacted include camps, people with disabilities, facilities for those assisted a loved one with health challenges and service animals. The list is wide and varied.
We are excited to continue another great year of supporting important non-profit organizations in 2026! Our January focus organization is MARC – Mt. Horeb. MARC has been serving adults with disabilities in Dane County for over 70 years.

MARC enhances the quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities by advocating for full inclusion in the community, fostering opportunities for self-worth and dignity, and providing a broad array of support services tailored to individual strengths and needs. They emphasize the importance of choice, the joy of work, and the power of compassion by offering seven programs that provide a unique combination of services. MARC enhances the lives of more than 300 adults at six locations and at more than 130 community-based job sites.

Supporting MARC is personal for me. Years ago, Hubby Rick and I lived next door to Emily. She was in high school when she was our neighbor. After she completed the education program offered to her through our local school district, Emily became part of the MARC program. These days, Emily goes to MARC three days a week. She participates in a job-share program at a local business, participates in other programing and hangs out with other adults who are similar to her. For Emily and her family, MARC provides opportunities and structure.
We are encouraging you to support the MARC center in Mt Horeb where Emily participates. Here’s how:
Donate online: https://marc-inc.org/support-marc/donate-now/
Mail Donations to: MARC, Inc., 901 Post Road, Madison, WI 53713-3260
If your employer makes matching donations, their EIN is: EIN# 39-1660939.
Please indicate your donation is for MARC – Mt. Horeb.
If you prefer to support a local organization, please do so!
Why did Stacie and I start OMR? Because we have this deep-seeded belief that when we each do a little, together we can accomplish a lot. Our Monthly Resolution has confirmed this for us. We invite you to join in our little group and make a difference. Regularly, we post information in our Facebook Group:
What to make a difference? Support a non-profit group in your neighborhood. See how it makes you feel!
Soon, I’ll be back to more regularly programing here on Simple Words of Faith! For today, thanks for reading along.
Blessings –
Dianne
Holy God – It is so easy to look at the world around us and assume that it’s someone else’s responsibility to do something. Anything. When maybe, my role is to make what difference I can. Speak to my heart how I might serve you today and every day in some small way. For when we each do a little, together we do a lot. Amen.
