Simple Is Better – Uniquely Made by God

An enjoyable moment is when a baby sees itself in a mirror and realizes it is themselves. They giggle. Maybe point a finger. Smile. Realize they can see what they look like.

Seeing what we look like is important. Well, at least for many of us. It puts a smile on my face when I “catch” a young person observing themselves in the mirror and what they look like. Often, this helps them gain confidence in themselves.

And this is the premise that our August Our Monthly Resolution organization is built upon. Our unique differences make us beautiful. And it is important for children to see themselves in the toys that they play with.

A Doll Like Me is our August Our Monthly Resolution organization. Dolls are important playmates. They help kids use their imaginations and make sense of their world. Dolls can help children cope with stressful situations and feel confident in who they are. Dolls should look like a child re-enforce all of these concepts. The magical work captures The beauty of each child that receives a doll in the sweet face of a doll.

Every doll is custom made for the child who receives it and therefore, is unique! A Doll Like Me loves it when people help spread the word of their mission and make them aware of kids who would benefit from a doll.

Do the kids understand that the dolls are made to look like them? Here’s what one family said after their child received a doll:

“It is hard to put into words what a special blessing A Doll Like Me is. A week ago, Morrigan received her own doll in the mail. This little girl was personally handcrafted in the image of Morrigan. I wasn’t sure how Morrigan would respond to having a doll with a trach. Would she even notice? Well, Morrigan noticed. She immediately responded with, “like me.” Each night Morrigan’s baby goes on the cool mist machine, “like me.” This little baby has allowed Morrigan to see herself and to love who she is.”

We are all beloved children of God. And yes, we are all unique and different. Here’s a great opportunity to help children know that they are beautiful in God’s eyes.

Holy God – May we appreciate how special we are in Your eyes. May we see that we are beautiful, even if in the world’s view, we are unique. Thank you for the folks who are dedicated to helping kids have a doll that looks like them. May this be a blessing to so many children. Amen.
