Proverbs 3:5-6 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.”

Dreams. They often fuel our hopes and our futures. Sometimes, those dreams feel almost too big. Amazingly, sometimes, opportunities allow us to pursue those big dreams even when they might feel unreachable.
This is what is behind the Willa Brown Aviation Academy, Inc. (WBAA). Based in Madison, WI, WBAA is our July Our Monthly Resolution organization. It is an educational organization that wants to connect Madison-area youth who would not normally be exposed to the wonderful experiences and careers that aviation has to offer. Their purpose and mission is to empower, inspire and instill confidence in underrepresented youth in the field of aviation, including young women and people of color, through education and mentorship honoring the pioneering legacy of Willa Brown.

Willa was a one-of-a-kind aviator. She achieved much during a time when barriers existed for African Americans who wanted an aviation career. Willa began her aviation career in the mid-1930s, learning to fly and fix airplanes. She was the first African American woman to earn a U.S. pilot’s license and run for Congress and the first woman to hold both a pilot and mechanic’s license. During World War Two, she lobbied the government to integrate programs which paved the way for the military to award training contracts for Black pilots.
The Willa Brown Aviation Academy offers three educational program opportunities. Camp Will is a one-week day camp held for kids ages 12-17 where they explore aviation. The camp includes a free airplane lesson by volunteer pilots. Wings 2 Fly is a series of one-day flight events that offers one-on-one flight experiences for underrepresented youth, women and people of color. The Madison Youth Aviation Club invites youth who have completed WBAA’s introductory programming and have interest in aviation and possible career tracks to continue exploring the aviation industry.
Here’s more about their story:
The Willa Brown Aviation Academy exposes youth to potential career options they may not have otherwise considered. They help connect youth to aviation schools and offer scholarships as well.
We love that the Willa Brown Aviation Academy is helping youth pursue dreams; dreams they might have otherwise felt unable to pursue. Dreams that turn into careers and opportunities to serve people in so many ways.

Loving God – Dreams are part of life. The Christian journey. May I be a person who encourages others to follow their dreams and see if they are a way to serve Your kingdom. Remember to remind me that we are never too old to look at ways to help dreams come true. Amen.
