Simple Is Better – Because Music Has An influence

I was just five-years-old. My older sister was taking piano lessons. I so desperately wanted to take piano lessons as well. After significant pleading, my mom consented and agreed for me to take lessons even though my little hands could barely reach across more than a few keys.

For the next 12 years, I regularly took piano lessons. When my lessons became expensive, I taught piano lessons to pay for my lessons. One of the best “skills” I ever learned was playing piano. It’s a skill that I have used thousands and thousands of times; more than once at the last minute.

To this day, I use music to relax. To connect with my faith. To enjoy favorite songs and play them over and over. For me, music is a language by which I inspire myself and hopefully others.

My personal experience with music is one reason I am so excited to share the November Our Monthly Resolution organization: Music6s. Music6s is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the mental health of veterans, first responders, healthcare workers, and their families. They believe in the transformative power of music to heal wounds that aren't visible. Through the gift of instruments, music education and performance opportunities, they create a supportive community where all can express themselves and find a positive connection through the universal language of music.

What exactly does Music6s offer?

Free Lessons: One-on-one and group instruction for guitar, drums, bass, piano, and more. Their instructors understand the unique needs of people who serve.

Instruments & Gear: They provide instruments and equipment at no cost. From guitars to amps, they will get students set up with everything needed to start a musical journey.

A Place to Play: Music6s provides Access to their rehearsal spaces and studio. Students can practice by themselves, jam with others or record music in a supportive, creative environment.

Community Events: To encourage continued musical development, they offer regular jam sessions, open mics, and performances where the community comes together to share music and support each other.

Located in New Berlin, WI, Music6s looks for partners: people to volunteer and teach lessons, those who have instruments to donate and music students. They are committed to making 100 percent of all donations support their mission and vision.

How can you help? Donate instruments, become a volunteer or support the organization financially. Every $200 provides a student an instrument and 10 free lessons. To support Music6s:

Music really does change many things; including people. Thanks for considering a donation to Music6s this November!
