Making Eye Contact with Unanswered Prayer

Romans 12:12: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

There are a variety of reasons why people lack confidence in God. Over the years, many of them have been shared with me. If I were to pick one of the more common answers, it would be unanswered prayer.

A loved one died. Someone experienced a terminal illness. A person died too young. No one deserved the situation some is going through.

Yes, these are real reasons why a person could walk away from God. And certainly, there are more. But may I make an alternative suggestion?

Make eye contact with unanswered prayer and keep praying anyways.

Look unanswered prayer right in the eye. Don't shy away from it. Hone in on it. Double down on it. Commit to praying anyways.

Yes, it might feel easier to walk away. Give up on God. Put your energy elsewhere. But if you really want the One to help you understand life, then giving up isn't good enough.

Look it in the eye. Keep praying anyways.

Yes, it's hard. Yes, it may not always make sense. But isn't a lack of sense what got you into this position any ways?

Make eye contact with unanswered prayer. And keep praying.

It's the best I have for you today.

Blessings -

Dianne

Holy God - We get frustrated when our prayers aren't answered. Or at least answered OUR way. Rather than giving up on You, challenge me to stay with You. Discover more about myself, You and the relationship I want to have with you. Thank you for always being there. Amen.
