Simple is Better: If Undoing Was Only This Easy
I love a good computer keyboard shortcut.
When you hold down a couple of keys on your keyboard and an action happens quickly. For example:
Hold Control and the letter C: copies what is highlighted.
Control and the letter P: pastes the last thing you copied.
Control and the letter S: saves an existing document.
Control and the letter B: bolds what is highlighted.
Control and the letter I: italics what is highlighted.
I use these shortcuts all the time.
My all-time favorite keyboard shortcut: Control and the letter Z. This magically undoes the last thing you did.
Sometimes, depending on the program, you can use Control-Z multiple times. This undoes your last several keystrokes and a quick way to reverse your last keystrokes.
Control Z is a wonderful thing. I use it ALL. THE. TIME. Probably more than I even realize.
When I did something I didn’t want to do, Control Z.
I think I like something but I change my mind. Now, I like an earlier version of what I had. No problem! Control Z.
I made a change and I can’t remember what it was. Easy. Control Z until it changes.
I want to choose between two options. Control Z, back and forth until I decide.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could Control Z things in real life? Like undoing something we’ve already done?
Unsay something we regret. How I wish I could Control Z those situations.
We think we’re doing the right thing, only to discover it wasn’t the right choice. Why can’t Control Z come to the rescue?
I ate too much. No problem! Control Z!
My actions weren’t helpful. How wonderful it would be if we could simply Control-Z and undo some ill-fated steps.
Imagine what life would be like if we could just undo easily and quickly with Control Z. Unfortunately, we don’t have this luxury. There’s really not a way to undo what just happened that we no longer need.
And yet, there is. Control Z’s real name is God. When we do something hurtful, God can Control Z the situation. Yes, we have a role such as issuing an apology. Before we can undo a situation, God has already forgiven us.
God uses Control Z ALL. DAY. LONG. We just might not be aware of how often God fixes things before we’ve ever thought about it. How cool is that?
Thankfully, no one can Control Z God. While we might want to Control Z God, this is not our role. No one can undo God. We can try and try, but it’s beyond our capabilities. This is why we need God. Someone who knows more than we do. Values and appreciates us all. Desperately wants us to ask for Control Z to help clean up one of our missteps.
Best thing we can do? Know and appreciate the many times God has used Control Z in our lives. Thank goodness we have a backup plan. It’s called God.
Lord God – Help me consult with You more often about decisions before I make them. Thank you for coming to my rescue and reversing something for me. Help me be patient when undoing something doesn’t happen quickly. Amen.
