Simple Is Better – Be Still and Know that I am God

Be still and know.
I walk by this sign in our house many, many times a day. We have a split level house, which means when you walk into the house, you have to decide. Steps up or steps down. Steps down to the washing machine and garage. Steps up to the kitchen, main living room, my office and bedroom.
On this landing is a sign with the words, “Be still and know.” I made the sign years ago at one of those sign painting classes. I went with some friends. We had a great time. We each painted our own sign so everyone’s look different. For some reason, I chose to paint, “Be still and know.”
While making the sign, I had decisions to make: what color to stain the board? Did I want another material painted over the stain, which would allow for more potential effects with the board? What colors did I want to use? A few more.
Eventually, I chose a dark stain for the background board. Wanting it to look more rustic, I painted a lighter grey paint over the stain. The main letters became an eggplant color while “Psalm 46:10” was painted in black. I left the border boards dark to create contrast with the main body of the sign.
In our current house as well as our previous home, the sign hung near the entrance. Every time I walked in or out the door, I saw the sign. Every time I go up and down the said, I see these words: Be still and know.
“Be still and know.”
Be still and know that whatever is going on in your life today, God is there.
Be still and know that when you walk out the door of your house, God is with you.
Be still and know that every conversation you have today, God will be present.
Be still and know there is nothing impossible with God.
Be still and know that God has your back.
Just be still and know.
Now, this sign has become something I look at all the time. It’s a simple reminder every time I go up and down the stairs, I can be refocused on the One who is always with me.
Be still. Know.
Not bad words to include in our daily lives.
WORDS OF COMFORT
When difficult times happen in our lives, sometimes, we just want a few words of comfort. Words that say something that will be comforting. Encouraging. Meaningful.
That’s why I’ve made a line of cards and prints with quotes from my most recent book, Unraveling Together: Sharing the Threads of Grief. Initially, I hadn’t planned to offer merchandise as part of the book. After some encouragement and prayer, I decided to.
These items feature the cover of the book and include quotes found in the book. There are greeting cards, 8x10” prints, an 11x14” print and magnets. My favorite are the little 4x4” Grief is Real cards. This is a pack of 24 different quotes from the book, all featuring a little different section of the book cover. Some of the quotes are more faith-based. Some are more generic. All speak to life and grief. The cards can be put in a little stand that is also available, simply shared with another person or used as a little card.
